When comparing chain hoists, ask whether the load only needs to move vertically or also needs to travel horizontally within the work area. Fixed-suspension and monorail configurations address these different requirements.
When to consider fixed suspension
A fixed-suspension hoist is attached to a set point and lifts the load from that location. Unless another system provides horizontal travel, the hoist itself does not move along a beam. It may suit work areas where loading and unloading positions remain fixed.
What a monorail configuration provides
A monorail arrangement allows the hoist and trolley to travel along a compatible beam. This can move a load between positions on a defined route. LiftHand lists monorail chain hoists as a separate product category; confirm each model’s movement and specifications in its datasheet.
Compare these points before selecting
Consider the load route, beam dimensions and capacity, available installation space, required movements and electrical supply together. For monorail systems, verify that the existing structure is suitable for the project dimensions. Do not assume beam or mounting suitability from the hoist capacity alone.
